Three elderly people died in an off-ramp car crash just off of northbound Interstate 680 near Benicia. The crash occurred when two vehicles were attempting to head to the off-ramp.
According to traffic reporters with knowledge of the situation, the car containing the elderly victims only suffered a minor fender bender in the initial collision with the car. However, the victims’ car drove off the interstate after the collision and proceeded to roll several times off on to the grass near the on-ramp. It landed on its wheels, but the force of the rolling caused the death of the victims.
An analysis of the accident scene showed that everyone in the car was wearing seat belts, and the air bags in the car did deploy. The car sustained major damage to its front end during the roll off the interstate. There was no word about the condition of the other car in the fender bender.
In this situation, family members of the victims will undoubtedly be devastated over the news of the accident, and will potentially look into filing a wrongful death or personal injury claim. To find success in such a claim, their legal team will need to be able to prove that the other driver involved in the accident was somehow negligent or liable for the crash. If the driver was distracted, driving recklessly or otherwise disobeying the rules of the road, he or she could be considered liable in the accident.
